Deborah Brown, who lives here in Ramelton, has been described by the late Dorothy Walker as “one of the most experimental of Irish artists”. She has made a major contribution to art in Ireland over the past fifty years.
Her life has been marked by a consistent search for development as an artist, and that has led to highly original work, such as her pieces with wire and fibreglass. Her career has been marked by a shift in the early 80s from abstraction to figuration.
She has gained much recognition for her sculptures – her ‘Sheep on the Road’ outside the Waterfront Hall in Belfast must count among the best-known public art pieces on the island. Her paintings from earlier in her career also continue to have a special appeal.
Deborah is represented in the summer exhibition by a beautiful unique sculpture called ‘Among the Ruins’.
