Peter Collis, the expressionist painter who lives in Wicklow, has been described by Aidan Dunne of the ‘Irish Times’ as “the Irish Cezanne”.

Born in London in 1929, he studied at Epsom College of Art. He moved to Ireland in 1969.

Collis has exhibited in the Royal Academy and the Royal Irish Academy.

Desmond McAvock wrote of him: “Like Cezanne he is really more interested in the structure of his scenes than in their transitory appearance. . . He can bind his observation into a cohesive, tightly controlled but always sensitive design.”

There are two fine paintings by Collis in the 2007 Summer Exhibition at Ross Fine Art.
