Ross Fine Art
Pride of place goes to a fine painting called ‘Thinking Clown’ by the Belfast artist Gerard Dillon, who died in 1971. Dillon is now one of the most sought-after Irish artists, and his painting ‘Omey Island, Race Day’ was sold at De Vere’s in Dublin last month for 200,000 euro, a record for his work.
The renowned Dublin-born artist Sean Scully, who has paintings in the world’s top galleries, is represented by two fine editions, ‘Yellow Light’ from 1992, one of which is in the collection of the Tate Gallery in London, and ‘Red Fold’ from two years ago. A 2006 painting by Scully, ‘Valencia Wall’, was sold for £657,250 at Sotheby’s last month.
Also new to the gallery are two fine works by the Kilkenny-born artist Tony O’Malley, who by the time of his death in 2003 had gained recognition as one of the finest Irish artists of the last century. One is a subtle and beautiful work called ‘Annascaul, Kerry’ and the other an enigmatic self-portrait which he painted in Llanellyd in Wales in 1963.
Also in the exhibition are works by the up-and-coming Canadian JoEllen Brydon, the French artist Christine Cheim, Eamon Colman, Martin Gale, Basil Blackshaw, Markey Robinson, the RHA president Stephen McKenna and many others.
