Ross Fine Art
Based in Kent, the Derry born artist Martin Doran has produced a stunning collection of Donegal landscapes for his first solo exhibition at Ross Fine Art which opens with a wine reception Friday 13 November at 7pm
Having studied Fine Art at the Ulster Polytechnic, Belfast, Martin Doran completed his Fine Art Degree at Goldsmiths College, London.
Over the years, Doran has immersed himself in remote landscapes of France, Italy, Spain, Greece and Israel. Painting en plein air he works at one with his subject in an effort to produce an artwork imbued with the energy of that place and moment. He pulls from the scene all that is essential to it in his quest to capture the energy of that first spark of inspiration.
In this exhibition he has concentrated on the beauty of the wild landscape of Donegal. Doran’s vision of these remote places is a romantic one. In capturing this precious sense of the enchanted, he produces work that appeals to admirers of both abstract and traditional art.
Working easily with pastel, charcoal, watercolour and oil ,he uses whichever medium lends itself best to the mood he is trying to capture.
Doran works comfortably with colour. There is a luscious, luminous quality to his palette as he tackles dawn rising over distant hills, stillness after a storm or the last light of dusk on a western beach. His endeavour to capture that elusive moment of weather on landscape. These beautifully accomplished atmospheric pictures are Doran’s response to nature in her many guises. He invites us to get lost in this magical landscape that we are so fortunate to be surrounded by.
Martin Doran’s work is held in numerous collections internationally.
He has exhibited in Derry, N.Ireland and extensively in galleries across S.England.
